Selection Guidelines

The following are the guidelines in regard to the selection of teams for Veterans Cricket ACT representative sides. These have been developed so as to provide guidance to the Age Groups Selection panels to work within and from.

General Selection Guidelines:
The Age Group Coordinator shall call for expressions of interest from the playing group for possible selection in any match organised during each cricket season. Players must email their nomination for selection to their age group representative who will then send the list of nominees to the relevant age group Selection Panel who will select a team(s) and a captain from those who have nominated for consideration.

Following the selection of teams, the Selection Panels will advise their respective Age Group Coordinator of the team(s) selected. The relevant Age Group Coordinator will then advise those players who were selected and have the Board Secretary publicise the selected team(s) to all Veterans members.

The selection of sides will be influenced or guided by the nature of the match(s) to be played. Prior to a match being played, a decision will be made by the selectors and/or Veterans Cricket ACT Board to establish if the match is:

 * Representative – Competitive
 * Representative – Participative (includes social matches)

When selecting teams the following should be considered:
 * Financial parameters placed by Veterans Cricket ACT (must be a financial)
 * Discipline parameters placed by Veterans Cricket ACT

For matches to be played at the National Championships, the Veterans Cricket ACT Board has determined that those teams playing or nominated in the highest division can include the best possible playing options from any age bracket. For lower divisions, players should only be selected from that age bracket competing unless availability is one of the determining factor.

Note: To be eligible for selection in a National Championship team(s) all players must have turned the minimum required age in the year of their respective age Championships

It should also be noted that some events allow for younger players to play in their event rules.

Veterans Cricket ACT is an inclusive organisation and will not discriminate those cricketers looking to form part of the broader ACT Cricket community.

Selection Criteria
The Criteria considered for each representative match will include (without any specific weighting placed on any given category):
 * Form – both current and previous (where applicable);
 * Structure and balance of the team;
 * The current level a player is participating and in which competition (i.e. ACT Premier Grade, City and Suburban, ACT
   Vets etc.);
 * Level of fitness, and mobility, ability to play across multiple days and skills level demonstrated across the multiple
   disciplines (bowling, fielding and batting)

Captains advice and presentation to Selection panel (where applicable and received)
Attendance at official VCACT training sessions (ACT/Qbn based players only). More weighting to be given to this criteria when selecting players for over 60’s and 70’s matches;

Participation in intraclub practice matches as applicable.

For matches played in the Representative – Participative bracket, selectors are able to use those matches to introduce new players, reward or encourage consistency and reliability from within our current competitions and to continue to grow the Veterans Cricket ACT brand through inclusivity.

From time to time, Selectors may take into consideration opportunities to attract past representative or premier cricket players back into Veterans Cricket ACT sides to continue to grow the game and promote the benefits of Veterans Cricket to the broader community. This will occasionally include players from other districts who have an affiliation with ACT Cricket, have played for the ACT previously or players who will augment the selection process.
