About Us
Veterans Cricket
Veterans Cricket began in the ACT in the late 1980’s with the most of the grade clubs having a team in the competition. Matches were played on a Wednesday evening. The original competition was for players 45 and older, but by the mid 90s number were dwindling, so it was reduced to Over 40. The competition folded in 2003
In 2006, John Beaton, Col Berry and a few others invited Over 60s teams to come to Canberra for a series of matches. From this humble beginning the Over 60s began playing regular matches culminating in the 1st organised Nationals in 2007 and has grown from strength to strength ever since. Veterans Cricket is now played all over Australia and New Zealand.
Not only do the ACT send teams to the various age group Nationals each year, teams also participate in various other tournaments/carnivals, including NSW State Titles, Echuca, Qld Winter Carnival and Barrossa Valley Autumn Festival. We also play a number of adhoc matches against teams from Southern Highlands, Batemans Bay, Bega and now Riverina.
Add to this, we have now organised two tours to the UK (2019 & 2023) with plans to make this a regular event.
